Detectives Seeking Witnesses, Info Regarding Unsolved Murder of Brian Sanderson

Exactly 21 years ago, the remains of 54-year-old Brian Sanderson were discovered. Today, his case remains unsolved. Knoxville Police Department Homicide Unit detectives are actively investigating his murder and continuing to seek information that could lead to an arrest.

On November 30, 2003, human remains were found along I-275 near Woodland Avenue. The remains were found between railroad tracks and the Woodland Avenue exit ramp.

The remains went unidentified until recently, when advanced genetic testing positively identified the remains as belonging to Sanderson. Medical Examiner’s Office personnel determined that Sanderson’s death was a homicide. 

At this time, no suspects have been arrested, charged or identified, but the investigation is ongoing. Since the homicide investigation began, there have been developments in the case and detectives have identified potential witnesses. 

Detectives have also received additional photos of Sanderson and are sharing those publicly in an effort to identify additional witnesses and gain new information concerning Sanderson’s death.
